Phish is playing a lot of familiar venues and cities this Summer tour. A far cry from last years' selections where almost every venue during the second leg was brand new to the band. Since we are returning to so many familiar spots, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of the venues past jams.
Now, it would be easy to go through and pick out the obvious gems, such as the Tweezer from Bangor or last years amazing Piper from SPAC. Instead we are going to try and pick out the b-side type jams. All the more worthy to be heard just over shadowed by the bigger guns.
We will start by posting around one venue with one song for now since as of this post the PhishTracks site does not have a way to turn off the autostart feature for an individual track (but it's in the works).
Bangor Auditorium, 11/2/94 - "Possum" (stream entire show)
So they may not be playing at the Auditorium but Bangor is a small enough town where we thought it be prudent to still include a track from their last show here. Buried in a set that features the same Tweezer heard on A Live One is this fierce rendition of Possum.
Besides the exceptaionl jamming from Big Red, there's also some fun teases of the Spencer Davis Group's song "I'm A Man" sprinkled throughout. All in all there's a ton of up and down movements, more so then normal in the jam. There are moments where you think it's all just going to fall to pieces but then it crawls back out into the fast paced blues jam that gets everyone jumping up like crazy, even if we all do get a bit irritated if they play it every other show these days.
For those Possum lovers out there (and haters), this is definitely a unique version that is not to be missed.
