When one heard Phish would be returning after canceling due to epic rainfall in Toronto, the die hard fan in all of us was saying, "how much are flights to Toronto in a couple of weeks"? The band has a tendency to throw down when they know a show may be under attended. Since the original date was canceled and the proximity of the following show (Washington state) is quite a ways away, one had to believe that this would not be highly attended by most touring fans.
That means it would be mostly the home town faithful in attendance. Since the city had gone through such an ordeal a few weeks prior and Phish unfortunately had to cancel their first show in thirteen years within the borders of Canada, they knew their game face had to be on for this make up. Well, the game face was certainly on and you don't have to look too far past the opening DWD in the second set to understand.
LivePhish.com posted the opener up on YouTube. Check it out below:
This jam does what Phish is exceling at in this tour and quite frankly in this past year and that is their full band contribution. While Trey is still out there firing on all cylanders and yes, Page is quickly becoming MVP of the tour. But when they are at their best there isn't one individual on stage that is shining over the rest. The interplay is all encompessing and it often leads to glorious excursions. Just listen to this jam around the 16 minute mark. You hear a band in complete sync and the crowd knows it too.
Not an easy tour to keep your whits about you but thankfully these four 'best' friends are in it to win it and all we have to do is show up (or tune in if you are couch touring).
